At the beginning of this year I committed to getting back in shape. I knew that I had let things go and if I wanted feel better and stay alive longer, I needed to put together a consistent exercise plan. In January, I decided to buy some exercise DVD’s and said to myself “I will get up every morning and exercise before work.” The next morning I woke, put on my sneakers and began. It felt pretty good to get back at it!
Well as most of you have experienced, I started strong and then little by little, day-by-day I found excuses to blow off my plan. At first I missed maybe one day a week - you know how it works, you roll over hit the alarm and promise to work out later in the day. That never happens. Then you promise you will do it every day but you do it for less time. By mid February, I was down to maybe one day a week for 15 minutes at most. I let myself down and yet again didn’t follow through on what I knew was very important to my health and sanity.
About this time, I met a personal coach and shared my dilemma with her. She became my accountability partner. We put together a better plan, joined the YMCA, select classes and exercises that I liked to do and we would meet every day.
I am now exercising every day with out fail. Due to being consistent, I have lost 25 lbs and feel better than I have in several years. I know that by continuing with this plan, I will stay healthy, sane and live longer.
I talk to people like me every day, only they know that they need to doing marketing to continue the health of their business. Most of them have put together plans that they think will work for them and have tried to regularly follow through on their plans. They promise themselves that they will do the work and make their tactics work. And like me and my exercise plan, they slowly back off.
Like me most business owners need someone to be accountable to. Someone who can help them find the right plan and then make sure that they complete all of the tasks in their plan on a regular basis. Without consistency, marketing doesn’t work. You can’t go to a networking event and expect new business. You have to meet with those people on a regular basis, gain their trust over time. You can’t do one seminar/webinar and expect to generate a new lead. You have to nurture those people with educational content, gain their trust over time, You get the idea.
Almost everything in life, if done consistently, becomes a habit you can trust – a routine that works towards the goal you set. If you are struggling with your marketing consistency, get someone who can help keep you on track or do it for you.
