Optimizing YouTube for search engines

Mar 2, 2019 10:00:00 AM

When inbound marketing started, content was primarily the written word, but a strong content strategy now includes written work and media like podcasts and videos.

And because video is growing so fast, it’s time to optimize it for search – especially on YouTube.

Here’s how:

Use keywords

Include your keyword in the video file, code, alt text, and title.

Optimize the description

YouTube’s official character limit is 1,000, but since viewers see only 100 characters without clicking ‘read more,’ put the critical info at the beginning.

Use tags & categories

Tags and categories allow YouTube to associate/group your video with similar videos, broadening its reach.

Add subtitles/closed captions

These allow you to utilize keywords and appeal to viewers who might want or have to watch without volume.
